چکیده

The study evaluated the aseptic establishment of Monstera acuminata Koch and deliciosa Liebm (Araceae) from leaves induction in vitro organogenesis M. K. stem discs young shoots. For this purpose, different disinfection protocols were applied to mature shoots, which leaf explants approximately 1 cm2 mm thickness extracted. established semi-solid media with hormone treatments during stage organogenesis. Disinfection 3% sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) for 20 min 50% Murashige Skoog[1] medium plant tissue culture preservative (PPM) favored less oxidation both species. All grown PPM-added at survived, showed no contamination more than 80% retained cellular activity up 49 days age. At 35 culture, Tween-20 + 20% ethanol 2.5% NaClO, seeding MS added mg/L BAP, 0.5 AIA 0.1 ANA, seven new shoots induced. was adaptable conditions. Advances native Araceae wicker production are basis ex situ conservation local populations.

Coronamycins, peptide antibiotics produced by a verticillate Streptomyces sp. (MSU-2110) endophytic on Monstera sp.

Coronamycin is a complex of novel peptide antibiotics with activity against pythiaceous fungi and the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans. It is also active against the malarial parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, with an IC(50) of 9.0 ng ml(-1). Coronamycin is produced by a verticillate Streptomyces sp. isolated as an endophyte from an epiphytic vine, Monstera sp., found in the Manu reg...

Potential carbon gain of shingle leaves in juveniles of the vine Monstera tenuis (Araceae) in Costa Rica.

The amount of light intercepted by vertically oriented, shingle leaves of juvenile Monstera tenuis vines growing in forest understory was compared to the amount of light the leaves would intercept if they were horizontal. Light levels were monitored using quantum sensors and hemispherical photography. Shingle leaves absorb less light than they would if the leaves were horizontal at the same pos...

Towards in vivo chemical imaging of epicuticular waxes

Epicuticular waxes, which are found on the outer surface of plant cuticles, are difficult to study in vivo. To monitor the growth, development and structural alterations of epicuticular wax layers, coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) might be used. CARS, as a Raman based technique, not only provides structural insight but also chemical information by imaging the spatial distribution of...

A preliminary study of genetic variation in populations of Monstera adansonii var. klotzschiana (Araceae) from North-East Brazil, estimated with AFLP molecular markers.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS This study sought genetic evidence of long-term isolation in populations of Monstera adansonii var. klotzschiana (Araceae), a herbaceous, probably outbreeding, humid forest hemi-epiphyte, in the brejo forests of Ceará (north-east Brazil), and clarification of their relationships with populations in Amazonia and the Atlantic forest of Brazil. METHODS Within-population genet...

How did the swiss cheese plant get its holes?

Adult leaf fenestration in "Swiss cheese" plants (Monstera Adans.) is an unusual leaf shape trait lacking a convincing evolutionary explanation. Monstera are secondary hemiepiphytes that inhabit the understory of tropical rainforests, where photosynthesis from sunflecks often makes up a large proportion of daily carbon assimilation. Here I present a simple model of leaf-level photosynthesis and...
